About Us

K.P.Y. was founded in honor of  Venerable Ajarn Thoon Khippapanyo in December 1999, as a non-profit organization to provide a place for the practice of Buddhist Dhamma.  The Center is set on 235.2 wooded acres in the quiet mountain of Ukiah, Northern California. It provides a secluded environment for Dhamma practice.

Many laypersons prefer to practice in a less structured environment. K.P.Y. provides the facility and teaching necessary for on-going practice and serves as a fertile training ground. Practitioners and retreaters can devote themselves to the cultivation of wisdom and insight for extended period of time.

Northern California climate and culture are unique unlike Thailand’s tropical weather. Our intention is to provide a simple living in harmony with nature.

A typical daily schedule starts at 5 AM and ends at 10 PM. Accommodations are simple camping grounds and provided tents. Men and women camp separately.

The Venerable Ajarn Thoon Khippapanyo provides the teaching.

Incorporation

We are a non-profit organization. K.P.Y organization was first incorporated in Texas on December 13, 1999. Our monastery and facilities are now located in California.

Purpose

The greatest way to influence a person is through changing his or her way of thinking. The right way of thinking follows the teaching of the Buddha.

  1. To offer a place where laypersons can come to practice  Dhamma and receive proper support.
  2. To offer a simple post -practicing place. For those who plan to stay, the  Five Precepts are required, and the Eight Precepts are encouraged.
  3. The practice is not limited to Buddhists. All religions are welcome.
  4. To provide a means for teacher  monks  in transportation and accommodation.
  5. Self-reliance and simple living are expected. Minimal medical aides will be provided.

Annual Meeting

Founding and retreat members will meet at  annual retreat. Officer elections and agenda updates will be held at the retreat. When there is no annual retreat, we will communicate through fax, telephone, e-mail or letter among our officers and founding members.
